Welcome to the AFH1 Blog! I've attached a video from World of Wearable Art - a different one from those I included in my Wearable Art Lecture on Wednesday, 20th March. Below the video, you will see a link to the website. Your task is to look at the winners from the various years, and find one costume which appeals to you. You may even find something which relates to your own wearable piece. Leave a short comment below, explaining why you chose the artist's work.
Remember to email your essay to me if you haven't submitted it yet!
Hi Gwen, great video. I liked pieces with cut up photographs and fabric sewn together. I was also watching on the news this week the current Vodafone DIT fashion awards which have interesting wearable garments. Enjoy your easter break. Susan.
Hi Gwen ! Hope you are enjoying your Easter Break. I really like the video you put up about the wearable art. I especially liked some of the dresses in the video that came out in a dome shape because for the bottom part of my dress I'm doing is a dome shaped umbrella that is recycled. I thought it was good reference to mine. Thanks Aisling.
Hi Gwen. This is really WOW! video. Many of the costumes are very interesting. On stage in motion with the music they look much better. But the costume 'Eos' from Claire Prebble is my favorite, because it is elegant also. I like light fabric. Enjoy your White Easter. Nataliya.
Hi Gwen, Hope the Easter Bunny is on it's way to you already. My favorite was the 9th costume, no. 126. I like the uneven structure, it looks like swirls and at the same time reminds me of a shell which name I don't know just have an image of it in my head. Googled it and tried to find but couldn't. Happy Easter!!! Natascha
Hello all had to set up a short list because so hard to pick 1 favourite. loved Eos by Claire Prebble, delicate yet structured, also smouldering Energy by Loren Shelds, really looks like someone's ablaze great energy, but I think Hermeca by Jan Kerr, from what I can see the texture and finish a superb and the colouring is so well achieved. Have a vary chocolaty Easter X
Hi Gwen, WOW, that video really is a visual feast for the eyes! My favourite wearable piece is from the 'WOW Historic Collection'. The designers name is Claire Prebble and the wearable piece is called 'Eos' which means 'Evolution of Spirit'. I admire all the detail, the contrasting colours and the spiritual nature of this piece. I am designing a detailed arm piece at the moment and Claire has given me great inspiration. 'Eos' was a thousand hours well spent. Thanks, Laura :)
Hi Gwen, Thanks for this energetic fashion/art video with great music, very inspirational. I loved the simple piece shown briefly after the metal piece, a black face mask, black dress and crazy hair. Next favourite a dress (number 137) made of colourful plastic discs, it looks great when she spins around. If you look closely you can see a reflection of the photographers. Anne
Hi Gwen, Thanks for introducing me to the challenges of the Blog, I think. I find the costumes fascinating. I liked many and some I didn't like were also great designs. One which particularly struck me was the 2010 Winner Untouched World WOW® Factor AwardReflection On Time, by Julie Brawley, Ashburton. It reminds me of an Anthony and the Johnsons album cover. Ina
Hey, I really enjoyed the video you uploaded I found the costumes really interesting and creative. Claire Prebbles wearable piece 'Eos' was my favourite out of all the designers. I thought all the pieces were fantastic though!
Hi :)Thanks for this wonderful video. The costumes in this really struck me, they are extravagant, bright and fun! Alot of time has proven to go into these costumes, the detail and mass of some of these costumes is extraordinary. Personally, I like 'Eos' by Claire Prebble. Its elegance and character is something that makes it slightly better than the rest. Aoife
Hey Gwen - loved the videos, I will take more time over the summer to watch the videos again and take in all the details. I too loved Claire Prebble's work. Would love to see a live show - Montana here I come! adele
